CUSIP Service Bureau To Issue IDs For Hedge Funds, FoHFs

The CUSIP Service Bureau, North America's numbering agency, has teamed up with Hedgefund.net, an information provider for hedge funds, to issue nine-digit and 12-digit alphanumeric codes for hedge funds and fund of hedge funds (FoHFs).
The initiative, to go live the end of September, will rely on the CUSIP Service Bureau (CSB) to assign the IDs to U.S. and some offshore domiciled hedge funds while Hedgefund.net says it will help the numbering agency promote the use of the codes to the hedge fund community. Such a marketing effort could bolster the use of Hedgefund.net's own services.
The announcement marks the CSB's continued expansion beyond traditional equities and fixed-income instruments. The numbering agency recently said it would assign IDs to listed equity options and legal business entities.
