EXECUTIVE EXCHANGE: Volante Picks Hamilton to Head EMEA Ops
July 26, 2010
Volante Technologies Monday named Fiona Hamilton to head up its new London office as vice president of operations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Volante, a New York headquartered provider of message transformation and data integration software, is known for its metadata-based methodology for transforming message formats which reduces the time and expense needed for programmers to handcode.
Changes to the European Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID), the adoption of XBRL tagging for corporate action notification and an increased use of International Standardization Compliant messages will likely prompt an increased interest in message transformation software in Europe.
The ISO messages are transmitted by fund managers, banks and brokerage firms, through the global network operated by the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications to communicate confirms of securities transactions, send settlement instructions and corporate action notifications.
European regulators are considering changes to how alternative trading platforms should report trades to their customers and regulators which could prompt firms to need upgrades in their internal messaging infrastructure.
“The European market is experiencing a growth of interest in messaging products as financial firms seek to reduce their operating costs and adapt to new regulations,” says Hamilton.
She was previously co-founder and services director of Volante’s competitor Century24 Solutions (C24), where she oversaw product content and customer projects. She held similar responsibilities at Iona Technologies, a Dublin headquartered service oriented architecture vendor which acquired C24 in 2007, as well as at complex event processing giant Progress Software, which acquired Iona in 2008. Hamilton also held senior executive positions at the former Mercator, Braid Systems and Misys Wholesale Banking Systems.
