The chief operating officer of the SIX Swiss Exchange has left.

Urs Derendinger departed last month, eFinancial News reported Wednesday. A Six Group spokesman confirmed the departure. Derendinger could not be reached for comment, the site reported.

Derendinger had served as COO for the past two years, and was in charge of key strategic initiatives and projects.

After his departure, the exchange combined the roles of operating chief and head of business engineering into a new position, head of business and market development. The exchange is to fill the role.

The exchange has been focused on improving its technology and service to high-frequency trading firms and is set to adopt a new, low latency platform provided by Nasdaq OMX later this year.

However, it suffered a systems outage during December, which halted trading in all securities during a morning's trading session, eFinancial News reported.
