Nasdaq to Open Trading at 4 A.M.

Nasdaq OMX Group said in a note to traders Tuesday evening that it plans to move up pre-market trading by three hours, as early as March 18.

The new start each day, if approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission, will be 4 a.m. New York time. The current time is 7 a.m.

Trading will cover all National Market System stocks. All functionality, data feeds and order types currently available from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. will be available from 4:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., Nasdaq said in its note.

The exchange will start sending event messages at 3:00 a.m.
