NYSE Crosses 1 Billion Shares at 11 a.m.

At 11:15 a.m., Dow Jones market data showed NYSE at 1.1 billion shares and the NASDAQ Stock Market at 606.5 million.
The volume showed pentup interest, after two days of stock exchange shut downs due to “superstorm” Sandy.
Last month, the NYSE averaged 1.16 billion shares a day, according to statistics compiled by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. In August, average volume was 969.0 million.
NASDAQ had average volume of 1.8 billion shares a day in September, according to SIFMA, and 1.56 billion in August.
“Everything is good” at the New York exchange, managing director for corporate communications Eric Ryan said.
New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, founder of the market data and financial news services that bear his name, rang the opening bell at the Big Board.
