NYSE Stock Trading Ticks Upward in November

NYSE Euronext said its stock market activity in the United States is still down 24.8% from a year ago. But daily volume ticked up 3.2% in November, from October.

Average volume on the New York Stock Exchange, NYSE Arca and NYSE MKT was 1.6 billion shares in November. That is down significantly from a year ago, but showed a slight gain from October.

NYSE Euronext’s share of trading in NYSE-listed stocks in November 2012 was 31.7%. That is down from 34.1% in November 2011, but up from 30.6% in October 2012.

So far this year, average daily volume is 1.7 billion shares, down 27.0% from 2011.

For November, the exchange operator also said:

• Stock trading in Europe was down 30% from November a year ago and 8.5% down from October.

• Activity globally in futures, options and other derivatives decreased 2.5% from November 2011 but increased 12.2% from October 2012.

• Daily volume in Europe in derivatives amounted to 4.0 million contracts a day. That is an increase of 0.2% compared to November 2011, and 26.8% from October 2012 levels.

• U.S. equity options trading on NYSE Arca and NYSE Amex amounted to 4.1 million contracts a day in November 2012. That is down 4.2% compared to November 2011 levels, but up 0.7% from October 2012 levels.
