SLIDE SHOW: Top 10 Off Exchange Stocks

In the first 20 trading days of 2013, five of the top 10 days for off-exchange trading in New York Stock Exchange stocks were recorded.

For all of January, for all stocks, 36.8% of trading took place off-exchange.

Former Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Mary L. Schapiro and securities industry experts argue that the ability to properly discover prices of stocks will be harmed if 40% or more of trading occurs off-exchange.

Here are the 10 members of the Standard & Poor's 500 which, in the first month of the year, recorded the most off-exchange trading.

All saw more than 40% of all trading in their shares occur off the nation's public exchanges.
