Toronto Exchange Suffering Technical Glitch
November 30, 2011
The Toronto Stock Exchange said it is experiencing interruptions of trading in stocks.
The unit of TMX Group said at 10:30 a.m. that it is “currently experiencing technical difficulties with symbols beginning with M to Z.’’
The company said it was investigating the problem, but had no further information.
In December 2008, the TSX and its venture exchange lost a full day of trading. Trading was halted “due to technical issues with data feeds” used in trading.
On Tuesday, Canada’s Commissioner of Competition expressed concerns on “the likely competitive effects” on equities trading and clearing and settlement if the Maple Group Acquisition Corp. rolled in trading venue Alpha Group Inc. and CDS Ltd., a clearing and settlement operation, in with its planned merger with TSX parent TMX Group.
Also, seeking a technical edge in increasingly high-speed but volatile markets, TMX Group said it would make a takeover bid for Razor Risk Technologies, a firm based in Sydney that provides credit risk software to clearing houses, stock exchanges, financial institutions and brokerages around the world.
