The Tokyo Stock Exchange halted trading on 241 stocks on Thursday.

Trading stopped at 9 a.m. Tokyo time due to “troubles on the market data/market information distribution.

”

Trading on ToSTNeT, the Tokyo Stock Exchange Trading NeTwork, also was halted.

Trading resumed at 12:30 p.m., when the market data distribution system had recovered.

Orders began to be received at 12:05 p.m. for the Tokyo Stock Exchange auction market and from 12:30 P.M. for ToSTNeT market.

Derivatives markets operated normally.

The ToSTNeT system gives investors a means of executing various transactions such as block trading and basket trading during off-auction hours.

The main purpose of ToSTNeT has been to complement the auction market by handling orders for which smooth execution is difficult using the auction algorithms.
